LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY - SABRES ROOKIE PROGRAM
Ages 4-15 years old
Each program includes 7-weeks of age-appropriate hockey instruction with USA Hockey certified coaches.
Rookie 1:
PREREQUISITE: We strongly recommend participants have successfully passed Learn to Skate levels Basic/Snowplow 1, 2 & 3 or Hockey 1 & 2 or able to demonstrate appropriate skating skills of those levels.
LESSON: Instruction is focused on the fundamentals of hockey: skating, passing, shooting, and stickhandling.
EQUIPMENT: If needed, you may choose to purchase an entry level set of hockey gear with your registration! The set is yours to keep and includes a bag, helmet w/cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin pads, jersey, and stick.
*Hockey skates are not provided in the set; however rental skates may be used during lessons free of charge.
**Sizes available from youth to junior. Equipment fitting will be scheduled after registration.
Rookie 2:
PREREQUISITE: Have successfully passed Rookie 1.
LESSON: Instruction will reinforce the fundamentals of hockey taught in Rookie 1 while introducing more skill development. Some of the skills introduced in Rookie 2 will be edgework, backward skating, turns, backhand passing, and a wrist shot.
